Auth Armor does not use passwords. This means that there is no "forgot password" to recover your account. Instead, you need to generate recovery methods in the event you will need to recover your account. It is very important to remember that this is the only way to recover an account if you've lost access to all of your devices. If you lose access to all your devices and all of your recovery methods, the account will not be recoverable.
Auth Armor supports two types of recovery methods.
- Create a QR Code
- Use a Security Key
QR Recovery Code: The QR Code recovery method allows you to generate a QR code from your device. You should then save this QR code somewhere safe in the event you need to recover your account. You can generate as many recovery codes as you'd like. Feel free to generate several and store in many places. QR recovery codes will ask for a passphrase. This is to encrypt your recovery code, and it is also used to decrypt your recovery code when you need to use it. The passphrase must be 8 characters long. Please use something that is easy to remember. It does not need to be a complex value like a password, rather, it should be a phrase, like "correct horse battery staple", but something easy for you to remember. QR recovery codes are designed so that in the event you lose it, anyone who finds it will not know who it belongs to and will not be able to use the QR code. There is no identifiable information inside the QR code.
Security Key: The Security Key recovery method allows you to link a security key to your profile. In the event you lose access to all of your devices, you can easily recover an account with a security key. This is the most secure method for account recovery. You can have unlimited security keys linked to your account for recovery. It is recommended to register several security keys for recovery, then places those keys in a safe secure place, like a bank deposit safety box.
Creating and Managing Recovery Methods
To create recovery methods, please open the Auth Armor app and from the menu, select "Add Recovery Method"
Here you can view current recovery methods as well as create a new one.
Select "Add new method" button. Now you will see two options.
Generate Recovery code creates a QR code for you to scan later to recover your account.
Add Security key will pair a security key to your account and allow you to recover your account with your key.
If you select Recovery code, you will be asked to set a nickname, and a passphrase to protect your recovery code. Once finished, a QR code will be displayed on your device. Be sure to keep it safe. You can save it or print it. In the event you need to recover your account, simply download the app and scan your recovery code to regain account access.
